From smart robots to fully immersive entertainment, Artificial intelligence has converted our reality to a scene from a sci-fi movie. A self-driven car not only needs to react to the ongoing occurrences on the road, but also needs to retain those occurrences in order to to avoid that kind of situation in the future.

Theory of Mind The Theory of Mind, if summarized, tell us about an entity’s ability to impute emotions, wants, and desires to ourselves and others. Thus, this type of AI machine is virtually capable of determining human emotions, desires, and thoughts. Let us look at it like this, if a police officer sees a person in distress, their first thought would be to go their rescue. Ideally, a robot police officer would be capable of reacting in a similar manner, thanks to the application of Theory of Mind.

Self-Awareness This next category of Artificial Intelligence may only exist hypothetically but it may not be that far away in the future. This type of machine is not only capable of what the previous technologies could achieve, but it would also have emotions, beliefs, and desires of its own, in short, it would be self-aware. There may even be a self-aware robot already in the works. Hod Lipson, the head of the Creative Machines Lab at Columbia University, is believed to be working on an actual self-aware robot right now. His team has already unveiled a robotic arm that works on this principle to some extent.

Artificial Narrow Intelligence Artificial Narrow Intelligence is a compilation of everything Artificial Intelligence has accomplished so far. Such devices are designed for a specific purpose and nothing more. Their task is to perform a routine activity autonomously as an actual human would do. Thus, they have a very narrow potential and are limited to those tasks alone.
